Citi's new Strata card, a no-annual-fee replacement for the Rewards+ card, offers enhanced earning potential and a generous welcome bonus. Launching later this year, it provides 30,000 ThankYou points after spending $1,000 in the first three months. Existing Rewards+ cardholders will automatically transition to the Strata card on July 20, 2025.
The Strata card boasts lucrative earning categories. Cardholders earn 5x points on hotels, car rentals, and attractions booked through Citi Travel; 3x points at supermarkets, select transit, gas/EV charging stations, and a self-selected category (fitness, streaming, entertainment, etc.); 2x points at restaurants; and 1x point on all other purchases. This surpasses the Rewards+ card's earning structure.
However, the transition isn't entirely seamless. Two popular features from the Rewards+ card are absent: the 10% points back rebate on redemptions up to 100,000 points annually, and the points round-up feature. While the enhanced earning categories and the substantial welcome bonus are significant advantages, the removal of these features might be a drawback for some existing users.
The Citi Strata card is part of Citi's expanding Strata family, which includes the premium Strata Premier card. A potential future addition, a Citi Strata Elite card, could replace the discontinued Citi Prestige card. The Strata card's launch signifies Citi's ongoing efforts to adapt its offerings to meet evolving consumer preferences within the competitive credit card market.
