BA Sponsors Olympia Venues: New Music Hall & Theatre Unveiled
British Airways has been unveiled as the headline sponsor for a new music venue and theatre within the massive Olympia exhibition complex redevelopment in West London, marking a significant strategic move for the airline. The new concert venue will be known as the British Airways ARC, and a 1,575-seat theatre will become the British Airways Theatre. This partnership aims to address a long-standing gap in BA's loyalty program, which has historically lacked entertainment redemption options compared to rivals like Accor, Hilton, Marriott, and Emirates, all of whom boast high-profile sports and entertainment sponsorships.
The British Airways ARC, a purpose-built live music venue with a capacity of up to 3,800, is set to open in 2026. Its operation by AEG is a key benefit, as AEG's artist management influence should secure quality acts. For members of The British Airways Club, the primary benefit appears to be priority access to purchase tickets for cash, including dedicated allowances for each event, VIP lounge access via the British Airways Wing, and private balcony seating for some shows. While members can collect Avios on food and drink purchases at select Olympia venues, a notable “own goal” highlighted is the absence of direct Avios redemption options for event tickets, which could have broadened appeal to a younger demographic.
Despite the limited Avios redemption for tickets, the initiative offers broader brand value. BA is also becoming a brand partner of The BRIT School, funding places for nearly 60 students annually and contributing to The BRIT Theatre's refurbishment. The British Airways Theatre, opening in 2027, will be London's largest new theatre in 50 years. While the ARC's capacity is modest compared to venues like The O2, this high-profile naming rights deal provides British Airways with a much-needed entertainment footprint in the UK, moving beyond its invitation-only Twickenham suite access.
