Bilt Rewards recently altered its points earning structure for rent payments made with non-Bilt credit cards. Previously, users earned a flat 250 points per month regardless of the card used. However, as of April 14, 2025, a new system was implemented. Now, payments made with Visa, Mastercard, or Discover cards earn 1 Bilt Point per dollar spent. American Express cards earn 0.5 points per dollar. A significant change is coming on July 21, 2025. All cards except the Bilt Mastercard will earn only 0.5X Bilt Points and incur a 3% fee. The Bilt Mastercard remains the most advantageous option, offering 1X points per dollar spent with no fees, allowing payment via check or ACH. The updated system incentivizes using the Bilt Mastercard for rent payments to maximize rewards. While using other cards might have been appealing for bonus point accumulation or meeting minimum spending requirements on other cards in the past, the reduced earning rate and 3% fee make it less attractive. The changes highlight Bilt's shift towards prioritizing its own branded card. The 3% fee for non-Bilt card payments and the reduced earning rate make paying rent using non-Bilt cards less attractive, especially compared to the benefits of using the Bilt Mastercard. The article emphasizes the importance of understanding these changes to optimize rewards and avoid unnecessary fees.
