The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has introduced Enhanced Passenger Processing (EPP), a new automated system designed to expedite international arrivals. EPP uses auto-capture technology to photograph travelers, enabling a complete customs assessment (biometric confirmation, eligibility, and enforcement checks) before they reach a CBP officer. This contactless process eliminates the need for passport scanning or other document presentation, streamlining the process and reducing wait times. Currently, EPP is available at several major U.S. airports including Orlando (MCO), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), Denver (DEN), Charlotte (CLT), Seattle-Tacoma (SEA), Cross Border Xpress (CBX), Chicago O'Hare (ORD), Los Angeles (LAX), Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta (ATL), and Dublin Airport (DUB). American Airlines has also implemented EPP at JFK, though it's not yet officially listed by CBP. While EPP is voluntary and requires no pre-enrollment, it represents a significant advancement in airport modernization efforts to handle increased international travel. For those seeking further expedited processing, CBP offers other options such as Global Entry (with a mobile app for faster processing), NEXUS (for trusted travelers between the U.S. and Canada), Mobile Passport Control (MPC) app, and the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) app for eligible visa waiver travelers. These various programs cater to different traveler needs and risk profiles, providing diverse avenues for smoother and more efficient international travel to the U.S.
