Google Flights Gets AI-Powered Flight Deals & Basic Economy Filter
Google has launched Flight Deals, an AI-powered search tool within Google Flights designed for budget-conscious travelers. Instead of manually adjusting dates and filters, users can describe their ideal trip (e.g., “week-long trip this summer to a city with great food, nonstop only”), and the AI will suggest matching deals. Flight Deals leverages Google's AI to understand nuanced search queries, accessing real-time data from hundreds of airlines and booking sites. The feature is rolling out in beta to US and Canadian users. Simultaneously, Google Flights has added a new filter to exclude basic economy fares for US and Canadian flights, enhancing the search functionality for users seeking more comprehensive flight options. This filter, however, currently does not exclude Southwest Basic fares. The improved search engine, including the new basic economy filter, is intended to coexist with the new AI-powered Flight Deals feature, offering users a choice between traditional and AI-assisted flight searches. The AI-powered tool promises to simplify the flight booking process for those prioritizing affordability and convenience, while the basic economy filter gives users more control over the type of flights displayed in results. This dual enhancement aims to cater to a wider range of user preferences and needs within the Google Flights platform. The changes reflect Google's ongoing efforts to improve its travel search tools and offer a more streamlined and personalized user experience.
