Hawaiian to Join Oneworld, Avios App & Finnair Deals

Hawaiian Airlines is set to join the oneworld airline alliance in early 2026, a significant development following its acquisition by existing oneworld member, Alaska Airlines, a year prior. Rather than a full merger, Alaska Air Group is establishing an IAG-style structure, where both carriers will operate as sister airlines, each retaining their own operating certificate. This integration promises considerable benefits for Avios users, who will soon be able to earn and redeem Avios for Hawaiian Airlines flights. Furthermore, the two airlines have already launched a joint loyalty program, Atmos Rewards. In preparation for expanded services, Hawaiian's Boeing 787 fleet has been transferred to Alaska Airlines for new long-haul routes from Seattle, including a Heathrow service commencing next spring. Conversely, Hawaiian Airlines' long-standing partnership with Virgin Atlantic concluded on June 30, 2025, meaning Virgin Points can no longer be earned or spent on their flights.

Separately, a recent update to the dedicated Avios app now allows users to view details of their British Airways American Express Companion Vouchers and Barclays Upgrade Vouchers. This feature is particularly useful for tracking voucher expiry dates. Initially, some users reported issues with Barclaycard Upgrade Vouchers not appearing, but IAG Loyalty has confirmed this has been fixed, and all customers should now be able to see them within the Avios app.

Finally, Finnair has introduced attractive business class deals to Dubai for the peak spring months of January, February, and March. Return fares from London are available from as little as £1,400, with even lower prices from Oslo, starting at £995 (excluding travel to Oslo). It's crucial to note these are “Business Light” fares, meaning lounge access and checked baggage are not included unless the passenger holds relevant British Airways or oneworld status. However, adding these amenities incurs a relatively small extra cost of approximately £75 per direction. Passengers can earn Avios and tier points, with crediting to The British Airways Club (150% of miles flown for R or I class tickets) likely being more lucrative than Finnair Plus (6 Avios per €1 on base fare) given the low fare prices.
