Lufthansa LHR T2 Lounges: Refurbished Comfort & Amex Perks
The Lufthansa Business and Senator lounges at London Heathrow Terminal 2 recently underwent a refurbishment, establishing themselves as the largest Lufthansa lounge complex outside Germany. Crucially, these lounges are the only Star Alliance option located within Terminal 2’s main building, making them exceptionally convenient for short-haul passengers who would otherwise face a 30-minute roundtrip to satellite terminal lounges. Situated next to the Aer Lingus lounge, they operate from 5 am to 10 pm, offering accessible pre-flight amenities.
A significant benefit highlighted is the partnership with American Express: Platinum Card holders flying Economy on Lufthansa Group airlines gain access to the Business Lounge, while those in Business Class receive an upgrade to the more exclusive Senator Lounge. Entry to the Senator Lounge specifically requires a QR code issued at reception. The combined lounge complex boasts a substantial capacity, seating 350 people. Despite the refurbishment, the article notes that “little has fundamentally changed,” with the familiar “industrial white walls surrounding brown chairs” persisting, though new design features like a backlit forest photograph and green seating have been introduced, adding some vibrancy.
In terms of provisions, both lounges offer a functional, uninspiring food selection, primarily a British-style breakfast with items such as scrambled eggs, bacon, beans, and porridge, complemented by novelties like mini pancakes and diced potatoes. The beverage selection is comprehensive, featuring various wines, spirits, and German beers, with prosecco also available in the Senator Lounge. Practical amenities include large work areas, soundproof phone booths in the Business Lounge, and a good array of newspapers and magazines. The Senator Lounge, though visually similar, benefits from fewer occupants and its own spacious, clean bathrooms. While the overall experience isn't described as exciting, the lounges are praised for their practical convenience, brightness post-refurbishment, and the diligent staff who maintain tidiness. These factors make them a pragmatic and sensible choice for travellers at Heathrow Terminal 2.
