Edinburgh Airport’s New Turkish Airlines Lounge Unveiled
The Plaza Premium lounge at Edinburgh Airport has transformed into the first Turkish Airlines lounge in Europe outside of Turkey. While Plaza Premium continues to manage the facility, all branding has been updated to reflect Turkish Airlines, a strategic marketing move for brand recognition, despite the airline's relatively low flight capacity from Edinburgh.
A significant benefit of this rebranding is expanded access. As Turkish Airlines is a Star Alliance member, passengers with status or flying business class on any Star Alliance airline can now utilize the lounge. Additionally, the lounge accommodates a broad spectrum of non-Star Alliance carriers, including Virgin Atlantic, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Finnair, Icelandair, and notably, Oneworld partner Qatar Airways, which is expected to be a primary user due to its daily Boeing 787 flights.
A major improvement is the substantially upgraded food offering. The lounge now provides an impressive halal spread, with labels in Turkish and English translations. Examples include Turkish red lentil soup, menemen (Turkish scrambled eggs), chicken sausages, turkey rashers, and khabee (an Arabic dessert). The lounge retains its appealing modern design with bright, floor-to-ceiling windows. Furthermore, the previously separate VIP room has been integrated into the main lounge, increasing usable space, while the large Family Room and two prayer rooms remain.
However, a potential drawback for some is that while Priority Pass, Dragonpass, and similar lounge club cards are still accepted, fewer spaces will be available, making entry more challenging than before. Despite this, the overall enhancements, particularly in food quality and the modern ambiance, aim to provide a superior experience for eligible travelers.
