Hey guys, Tessa here with another budget travel video Today I'm going to be talking about credit cards and especially travel credit cards

And what you want to look for when you're picking one out The first thing you want to look for is the card that's going to give you a big bonus back This can be 30,000 points, 40,000 points, sometimes there's ones even for 100,000 points Do be aware though that most of these cards stipulate you have to spend X amount of money in X amount of time to be able to get that bonus Don't sign up for a card if you don't think you'll spend that amount of money

Spending more money just to get big points back kind of negates the whole point of spending and saving wisely My next tip is don't be afraid of a huge annual fee Make sure you look at what the annual fee is and make sure you read all of the stipulations that come with it Sometimes the rewards you're getting cancel out how much you're paying for the annual fee of that card Take the Chase Sapphire Reserve

That card has a $450 annual fee, but let's take a look at that fee First you immediately get a $300 credit the second you pay for anything travel related Think flights, hotel or restaurants Then once you reach the sign up bonus, you get points equal to $750 towards travel Add in lounge access, saving you money while you travel and a $100 global entry fee credit And that $400 annual fee is basically gone

Another thing you want to look for is the card that lets you have travel statement credits versus using their own portal to book travel And here's why Sometimes the portal can have inflated prices This isn't always the case, but most of the time it is If you pick a card that let's you reimburse yourself with travel statement credits, then you can choose the cheapest flight out there

It doesn't matter if it's Ryanair or Emirates, you get to reimburse yourself after the fact And my last tip is when you're choosing between cards, you want to choose the best perks for your lifestyle If you usually like to pack a lot, look for cards that reimburse you for airline fees, like baggage Or, if you're like me, you might want a card with lounge access Being able to not have to buy food or water in an airport saves me so much money

Plus it's a nice place to go and relax and get work done while I'm on the road So when you're choosing between cards, make sure you're looking for the best perks for you That's what's really going to save you money in the long run Make sure you check out the article below for even more tips on what I look for when I'm picking out a travel credit card I'll see you guys next time! Bye!
